Women's Basketball - 2006 NIT Champions
Kansas
State's women's basketball team began intercollegiate competition in
1968. The team is among the top 15 all-time winningest programs in the
NCAA.
The women's team has participated in 14 total NCAA basketball
tournaments and AIAW tournaments (pre-NCAA). It has reached the Sweet
Sixteen 9 times and Elite Eight twice. K-State has finished ranked in
the Top Ten of the AP Poll on three occasions (1984, 2003, 2004), and in
the top twenty nine total times.
Following the 2005-2006 season, Kansas State was crowned champion of
the Women's National Invitation Tournament. The team returned to the
WNIT Final Four following the 2006-2007 season.
The Kansas State women's team continue it success in this year ranked
for much of the season in the Top 25. The Wildcats continue to
battle for the Big XII title in 2007-2008.
